Representing Australia at the 2025 Regeneron ISEF in Columbus, Ohio, has been one of the most enriching and unforgettable experiences of my life. I feel incredibly honoured and grateful to have had this opportunity, not only to present my project on a global stage, but to connect with passionate, like-minded students, scientists, and educators from around the world.
After nearly 30 hours of travel, we arrived in Columbus a few days early to settle in and explore. We hit the ground running with sightseeing and team bonding before the Fair officially began. One of the early highlights was our visit to COSI (Center of Science and Industry), where we were fortunate enough to get a behind-the-scenes preview of the Unofficial Galaxies exhibit before its public opening. Walking through the Star Wars-inspired displays, completely crowd-free, was such a rare and memorable experience. Our trip to Cuyahoga Valley National Park was equally inspiring. From scenic waterfalls to the vibrant atmosphere at the NCAA Men’s Volleyball semi-finals, we were immersed in the warmth and culture of Ohio.

As the Fair officially began, everything moved quickly. Walking into the exhibit hall for the first time and seeing the rows of incredible projects from all over the world was truly humbling. From setting up our displays in the enormous Exhibit Hall to attending workshops on judging and creativity, there was always something happening. Seeing my name at registration among the 1,600+ finalists from across the world was both humbling and surreal. The Pin Exchange that evening was a joyful blur of conversation and connection, with our koala pins proving very popular.

The lead-up to Judging Day was intense but deeply valuable. We participated in judging workshops, mock interviews, and team prep sessions that helped refine not just my project explanation but also my confidence and communication skills. Judging Day itself brought a mix of nerves and excitement. I was grateful for the opportunity to speak with several Grand Award judges who asked thoughtful and challenging questions. By the end of the day, I felt proud of how I presented and the journey that had brought me there. The Student Mixer that evening was a great way to unwind. It was full of energy, laughter, and celebration. Public Visitation Day the next day was another highlight, as I had the chance to speak with even more people, sharing my project with interested visitors, chatting with other finalists, and exchanging ideas with curious fair directors.
The Grand Awards ceremony brought immense joy and pride. To witness my fellow AUSSEF teammates receive six awards, including two 1st places, was absolutely incredible. I couldn’t be prouder of what our team accomplished. But beyond the awards, it’s the conversations, friendships, and sense of global community that I’ll carry with me. ISEF has left me feeling inspired, empowered, and more motivated than ever to pursue science with purpose.

I’m incredibly grateful for the outstanding leadership of Stuart Garth (our AUSSEF Fair Director), the support of our amazing chaperones, and the generosity of our sponsors. They made this dream possible. To everyone who supported and believed in me, thank you. I’ll carry these memories, lessons, and friendships with me for years to come, and I hope to pass on the inspiration I’ve felt to others back home.
