Check out a few of the activities we're trying for National Science Week in the SASTA office! 

Have you seen the ASTA National Science Week Resource Booklet? There are a range of Standalone activities for Science Fairs as well as Problem Based Learning Tasks for National Science Week for each year level.

Ocean Acidification

This activity is designed for years 5 -6 and in the video below we are using dry ice to generate carbon dioxide and bubbling it through water to show students that as the carbon dioxide combines with the water it changes the pH and makes it more acidic. You can download a PowerPoint to go with these activities here

You can then go on and do the activity from the National Science Week booklet on page 42 - 'Ocean acidification and shells'.

Density

Below, Kate is showing an activity for Foundation - Year 2 students called 'Learn about density and make saltwater jars' (page 16). We've also put together another two video demonstrations of density for this year level below. You can download a PowerPoint to go with these activities here
